| Frequently asked questions: Microtek Parallel Scanners & Windows 98 |
For Windows 98 you can download ScanWizard 2.49
or use ScanWizard 2.47 which is for Windows 95. The installation process is not completely
correct with ScanWizard 2.47 and therefor you may have to manually adjust the driver after
the installation of ScanWizard. Here's how it's done:
The "Parallel Port Mode" option in your BIOS (computer setup) should
say EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port). If not change it to EPP. This is the same as in Windows
95.
Switch off your computer; attach the scanner to your printerport and switch the
scanner on; wait untill the green light stops flashing and it remains permanently on.
Now you can switch on the computer. After the boot you must install the
ScanWizard for Windows 95 version 2.47 or higher.
Select "Parallel Printer Port Host Adapter" or something similar in the
interface dialogue box and continue the installation process.
When finished you must restart the computer.
After the restart go to the "Device Manager" (START - SETTINGS -
CONTROL PANEL - SYSTEM - DEVICE MANAGER).
Open the section "SCSI Controllers" and you might find a SCSI
Controller icon without a description as shown below. If the icon is there, the
installation procedure is finished. If not please continue.
Select this icon and press the "Properties" button.
Select "Driver" and then press the button "Update Driver".
You will now get two options from which you must select: "Display a list of
all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want.".
Windows builds a database and you will get the "Microtek Parallel Port Host
Adapter" as a single option. Press OK or NEXT to update the driver and the scanner
automaticly installed.
You can now close all boxes and restart the computer. The scanner should work
now.
If your PC has trouble starting up or locks up during scanning, change the Adapter Settings of the Microtek Parallel Port Host Adapter to /N /V /SF=30 by selecting PROPERTIES - SETTINGS of this adapter in the DEVICE MANAGER (section SCSI Controllers).
Removing the current installation:
First run the uninstall program that can be found in the ScanWizard or Scannerdriver group in the Windows 98 start menu.
Then check if the following directories exist and if so remove them:
Also remove the "Parallel Port Host Adapter" in the Device Manager. This driver can be found in the group "SCSI-controllers".
When finished reboot the computer with the scanner and if attached the printer switched on and reinstall ScanWizard like described above.
